Cecilie: The long-term designer

Cecilie Authén has extensive experience as a graphic designer in the advertising and design industry. She has now joined Dekode and is looking forward to working on long-term digital projects.

Designer with broad experience

It's been almost two months since Cecilie Authén joined the Dekode team, and she's already been thrown into a number of tasks. After all, there's a lot to do here and many people want help developing good digital design.

Cecilie is a trained graphic designer from Westerdals. She has experience from working as a self-employed person, as a designer in the agency Jentestreker and from the advertising industry. She has worked for both TBWA\Oslo and then Futatsu. In the latter media and advertising agency, she worked for 8.5 years.

- "Jentestreker gave me a lot of experience as a designer, because the agency was so small that you had to fill many roles yourself," says Cecilie. She's leaning back on the soft leather sofa at Dekode. "And in the advertising industry, I got to work on the design of everything from new visual profiles for magazines, print on large outdoor formats, banners, campaign pages and websites. Here I worked very broadly, which was really exciting. At the same time, it was challenging that I didn't have time to immerse myself in what interested me most.

And that's exactly what she'll be doing with us at Dekode. Immerse herself and work exclusively with digital design.

A long-term approach gives you freedom

- "I've missed the long-term approach in the projects I've worked on in recent years. The advertising industry is fast-paced, often with tight deadlines. Even though the strategies are long-term, my product had a short lifespan. In order to sharpen my skills and immerse myself more in the subject, I had to change pastures. Dekode's work model gives me the opportunity to work long-term and evaluate the work I've done and then improve the product along the way. It feels right," says Cecilie.

Cecilie has already managed to get off to a good start in her position. She attends meetings and workshops with clients and takes ownership of everything she is involved in. For her, it is important to have an open and good dialogue with customers and to be involved in developing design systems, such as Dekode's product Teft.

- Actually developing a system that allows you to save time and money for the customer by reusing elements. I think that's really great. Working so closely with developers also makes it easy to share expertise and learn from each other.

Breathing space

With two children, there's no hiding the fact that the long-term way Dekode works gives me more flexibility in my private life too.
- At Dekode , the processes are different to those in the advertising industry and there's little overtime. Here, I know what needs to be done well in advance, so I can plan better both at work and in my private life, and thus avoid some of the time crunch. I'll be looking after my youngest son, who's just started nursery school, and my eldest, who's just started school. This means I have a greater need for flexibility than before. I've even got more time for my own projects. The dream of making my own font doesn't seem so far away anymore. And I've picked up knitting again - not that this is a big thing in itself, but I'm starting to find room for it in my everyday life, it feels good to de-stress a bit.
