What is digital design?

At Dekode , designers who understand technology and developers who understand design work together with a modular approach. Here you can read more about our thoughts on what digital design is - penned by Øyvind Ellingsen, our creative director.

Digital design - more than form, color and function

Digital design is about more than form, color and function. It's about understanding everything from the needs of the target group to the company's business goals. It's about analysis, strategic thinking, technology understanding, business understanding, brand understanding, process management, concept development, testing and validation. It's about finding the optimal solution where design and technology together create good user experiences and good business. Digital design is about systemizing design and creating tools that make it possible to manage the product and user experience over time. And it's about form, color and function.

Design + technology

At Dekode , we have designers who understand technology and developers who understand design. This is a unique combination that forms the basis for us to deliver products that not only excite the end user, but also the administrator, editor and financial manager. By working closely together, we find out at an early stage what limitations and opportunities lie in different design and technology choices, before it has time to affect progress.

Frameworks, not blank sheets

It's not often worth starting with a clean slate. Most often, it pays to use established standards and conventions as a starting point, then build on these and prioritize the time spent where it has the most benefit.

That is why we have developed our own framework which consists of ready-made components that we can use as a starting point in our projects. This enables us to save time on conventional tasks that we constantly encounter in projects, and rather spend time on the unique and business-critical aspects of each client . With this, we create accurate and robust products that have that little extra where it matters most.

Modular, not straitjacket

A digital product, service or website is never completely finished. There is a continuous need for optimization, improvement and further development. New needs can arise overnight, while existing needs can diminish.

That's why we work with what we call a modular approach. This means that instead of creating rigid templates that you quickly outgrow, we offer flexible modules that can be combined to meet both current and future needs. With the right building blocks in place and a flexible modular approach, you'll be able to create and adjust all aspects of your website or service both urgently and over time.
